New Chelsea summer signing Joao Felix has revealed what manager Enzo Maresca said to him when he called him up ahead of rejoining Chelsea in the transfer window.
Felix of course was at Chelsea on loan not so long ago, and he has returned to the club again after just one season away.
BIG EXCLUSIVE!! Chelsea exploring ambitious move to sign Manchester City centre back as well as watching TWO Benfica defenders!!
It was a bit of a surprise move to be honest and really, I believe it was simply so Chelsea could sell Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid. They needed to sign an Atletico player in return as one of those unofficial PSR swap deals we have been seeing. Chelsea wanted and looked to sign striker Samu Omorodion from Atletico, but that did not happen. So it is my belief, and I am speculating of course and it is my opinion only, but I believe Chelsea had to sign Felix, or another Atletico player, to make the Gallagher deal go through.
I’m not saying Enzo Maresca and Chelsea didn’t necessarily want Felix, but I do think they had to pick one Atletico player to sign.
Felix is back regardless, and many Chelsea fans were excited about his arrival. And it seems like Enzo Maresca helped make it happen too.
Maresca called Felix
‘We have so many good players here and I spoke with Enzo before I signed with Chelsea,’ Felix said last night in the pre-match press conference for Panathinkaikos tonight, as replayed by the Chelsea website.
‘I liked what he said to me, the way he thinks of football and the way he plays. I liked what he said and I knew the competition would be hard but I’m here to work. I know what I can offer, what I can do and I think I can help the team.
‘It’s only a matter of time and nothing will stop me achieving my dreams. I will always work hard when wearing the shirt and I think it’s only a matter of time before I help the team.’
