One former Chelsea striker has jumped to the defence of a current Blues player after some recent criticism that is quite frankly just ridiculous to see.
There is a lot more positivity around Chelsea these days after Enzo Maresca took the reigns and helped Chelsea off to a very good start this season.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea had big chance to sign rising England star but had reservations, and so did he!
But a lot of the good form and good things that have happened around the club in the last two seasons has come directly from their new talisman Cole Palmer, who has literally taken the club by storm since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.
Palmer’s impact on Chelsea has been truly incredible, which is why is has been really weird seeing some criticism for him, and in some cases, some heavy over-criticism, based off just two performances for England in this latest international break.
Palmer wasn’t even that bad against Greece in the first game despite being asked to play in an odd deeper midfield role. But one outlet rated him a 2 out of 10 for his performance against Finland which was just daft really. He wasn’t great that game, but he wasn’t that bad.
Sutton defends Palmer
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton has been quick to defend Palmer after his England performances, and reminds people of the fact that it is just two games, and that Palmer has been good for so long before that.
As cited on X, Sutton says:
“You’re talking about players who their club form is sensational. And when they put the England jersey on, we are talking about two games with Cole Palmer. Let’s not write him off.”
The only frustrating thing is that it is only now that Palmer has nailed down a regular starting spot for England, at least under Lee Carsely. So you just feel a bit disappointed that he didn’t fully take his chances this time around.
