Tony Cascarino makes bizarre comparison between £29m man and club legend, which will leave fans confused

Former Blue Tony Cascarino has made a strange comparison between current star Noni Madueke and a Chelsea legend.

Madueke has made a good start to the season with four goals in the first seven Premier League games and has nailed down his spot on the right wing despite the summer arrivals of Joao Felix, Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

The winger’s good form has seen him make his England debut and he earned his third cap as he came on as a second half substitute in the 3-1 win against Finland in the Nations League on Sunday.

Chelsea have impressed with their start to the season under Enzo Maresca and currently sit fourth with 14 points from a possible 21.

The Blues have scored 16 league goals, just one less than top scorers Manchester City and have looked a real threat going forward with all their attacking quality.

Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are competing for the centre forward role with the Senegal international currently first choice, and he scored his first goal for his country last Friday.

A lot was made of Chelsea’s failure to sign a striker, but with Jackson and Nkunku’s start to the season it appears that may not have been a bad thing.

However, former Blue Cascarino has made a bold suggestion and would like to see Madueke given a go at centre forward if Jackson were to get injured.

“I would love to see him play the centre forward role,” Cascarino told talkSPORT as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.

“I think give him a go because I see a centre-forward. I like him [Jackson], but I think if there’s an injury, I think Madueke.

“He looks like a centre-forward to me in the making. I saw Drogba at a very young age and he reminded me of Drogba. Look, is he as good in the air as Drogba was? No, he is not. Can he develop? Yes, he has got the physique. I think there is a lot of improvement in Madueke.”

It’s certainly a bold suggestion and comparison and not one many Chelsea fans would suggest, with it far more likely for either Cole Palmer or Joao Felix to be deployed through the middle if any injuries were to occur.
