One former Chelsea player has named the current Blues man who ‘looks like a captain’ and ‘plays like a captain’, yet he isn’t one.
Well, he can actually be named as one of the current Chelsea captains, but he is behind a number of other names first before him such as Reece James and Enzo Fernandez.
EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea pick main candidate for new full back transfer pursuit!
James is the club captain, and Fernandez appears to be the vice-captain this season. This belonged to Ben Chilwell last season but of course, he is not currently playing for Chelsea too hardly at all this season.
Fernandez as captain has been a debate as well due to the racism incident that happened over the summer and also, he is currently not starting under Enzo Maresca’s best Xl.
James also gets injured a lot and is not that vocal as a captain. He’s been recently challenged on that by Maresca as well.
Moises Caicedo has worn the captains armband on occasions, but only very rarely when other players are missing. However, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy believes Caicedo looks like a captain out there right now.
Caicedo for captain?
In words cited on X, Cundy said this week:
“Moises Caicedo is emerging as one of those leaders on the pitch. He’s not just doing his job, but he looks like a captain, he plays like a captain. That’s something this Chelsea squad has missed.”
This Chelsea squad have certainly missed leadership, and I can see what he is saying about Caicedo being a leader by example. But I’m not sure if he is yet captain material in terms of motivating, instructing, and being vocal on the pitch leading his team mates. Maybe he could get there, but I don’t think he’s there yet personally.
