Jamie Redknapp drops big Caicedo claim and it’s not good news for one of his team-mates

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Chelsea aren’t at their strongest when Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo play in midfield.

The Blues missed the chance to go third as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United on Sunday, meaning they still haven’t won at Old Trafford since 2013.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Robert Sanchez had fouled Rasmus Hojlund, but Moises Caicedo produced a brilliant volley to equalise, whilst Fernandez missed a good chance late on to win it for the Blues.

Redknapp not a fan of Fernandez and Caicedo partnership

Having made 11 changes in midweek against Newcastle, Maresca reverted back to what he believes is his strongest line-up.

That meant Fernandez found himself back on the bench as Maresca continued with his preferred midfield pairing of Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Maresca had spoken before the game about why Fernandez wasn’t playing at the moment, and there definitely feels like there’s a better balance in midfield with Caicedo and Lavia.

Frank Lampard has had his say on what he feels the World Cup winner needs to do in order to get back into the Chelsea team, but it seems like he faces a tough task to get his place back.

Redknapp, who was working on the game for Sky Sports believes Chelsea weren’t at their strongest when playing the two South American’s in midfield together.

“I don’t think the balance between him (Caicedo) and Enzo Fernandez is right,” he said on Sky Sports.

“He looks much better with Lavia, who has got more pace, more energy to get around the pitch.”

Questions have been raised about Fernandez and he must have concerns after finding himself on the bench for the third Premier League game in a row.

The Argentina international will possibly find himself in the starting line-up for Thursday’s Conference League game against Noah, before the Blues host Arsenal in a huge London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
