Manager confirms Chelsea player is now “out four to six weeks” but doesn’t need operation

A manager has confirmed that one Chelsea player is now our for around four to six weeks after a latest injury, but he wont need an operation.

Chelsea have really got on top of their injuries this season, especially compared to the last couple of seasons. They used to have so many injuries ever week last season. But this season things have so far been very different, and it is only captain Reece James who is seemingly still suffering with longer term injuries and more regular ones still.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea stepping up pursuit of Premier League striker – not Evan Ferguson!

They do have another player injured though, but this is a player currently out on loan this season developing and attempting to stake a claim for the Chelsea first team in the new future. This setback is obviously going to stunt that just a little bit.

Good and bad news

Slonina needs to keep developing

Chelsea have many goalkeepers on the books, maybe too many. They aren’t all going to be making it at the club. Djordje Petrovic, who was Chelsea’s number one last season under Mauricio Pochettino, is now currently on loan with Strasbourg. Robert Sanchez just isn’t good enough to be Chelsea’s number one but the club keep doubling down on him.

Then we have Gaga Slonina, who was also hyped up when we signed him recently, currently out on loan with Barnsley.

Slonina is also now currently injured, as his manager has confirmed.

In words cited on X this week, Barnsley boss Darrell Clarke said on Slonina:

“He’s out four to six weeks. Unfortunately he did it in the warm-up the other week. The good news is he doesn’t need operating on. We will link up with Chelsea to try to get him back as quick as possible.”

He is obviously back at Chelsea doing his recovery and will head back to Barnsley as soon as possible. No surgery though which is good news.

  1. Slonina wasn’t signed recently. He was signed before any other goalkeeper signings of the current crop bar Betteneli and youth keepers. He was a target from the end of the Abramovich era and watched and recommended by Petr Cech. No doubt suggested by former academy boss Neil Bath to Boehly during his one window along with Chuckwuemeka and Hutchinson. As every club must register 3 keepers there is no reason Petrovic and Slonina who is 6 months from becoming an academy product like Ake and Christensen did.
