Insider tells Chelsea fans to “ignore transfer rumours” when it comes to struggling star

The Enzo Fernandez situation is one that’s bubbling up at Chelsea at the moment, as each game passes and it becomes increasingly clear that the midfielder has lost his first team place.

For now, things haven’t boiled over, but it does feel like a matter of time before things come to a head. There are certainly always going to be storm clouds on the horizon when one of the most expensive transfers in football history loses his first team place less than two years after he signs.

Speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law insisted that this wasn’t a Chelsea problem, however. Not yet, anyway. For now, it’s an Enzo problem, and a question of how he gets back into the side.

You can see Law’s response to questions about Enzo in the clip embedded here, with this answer coming after 16 minutes:

Chelsea have a way forward – but it’s all down to Enzo

“Well look, you may as well ignore transfer rumours on Enzo right now, because no-ones paying anywhere near what Chelsea could accept to take a hit on Enzo right now, let’s face it.”

Just like the rest of us, when the suggestion of an Aurelien Tchouameni swap deal was raised, Law just laughed through it. But he does have a solution for Chelsea:

“What they need to do… they’ve paid all this money for Fernandez and they now need to invest time into coaching him and really trying to work with him. And what’s why I say, then it’s up to him. It’s purely up to him. We’re going to see now whether this lad really has the minerals.”

It’s the same position everyone comes back to – we all know Enzo has the talent. But as his fellow January 2023 flop Mykhailo Mudryk’s tattoo reads, “talent ain’t enough.”

The next few months will tell us a lot.
