Rio Ferdinand names Chelsea star who does something every game that makes you go “oh, that weren’t normal”

Rio Ferdinand is a big fan of Cole Palmer and shared what he’s noticed about the Chelsea star when he’s watched him.

Palmer has established himself as Chelsea’s star man following his £42.5m move from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.

The 22-year-old has established himself not only as one of the best players in the Premier League, but also one of the best in the world.

Having won the Premier League Young Player of the Year award last season following a remarkable campaign the pressure is on Palmer to try and replicate that same level of performance.

The England international has seven goals and five assists from 12 league games, but was denied his eighth of the season against Leicester after Noni Madueke blocked his goal bound effort on the line.

Despite not registering a goal contribution in his last three games Palmer is still a joy to watch on the pitch and Ferdinand claimed the Englishman does some everything game that isn’t “normal.”

“Cole Palmer, every game I watch this guy, he does something that makes you go, ‘Oh, that weren’t normal’,” he told his YouTube channel.

“He played a pass the other day, the weight of it, wraps it in. He’s the one that makes them tick. He opens games up for them all the time.”

Despite being less influential in recent weeks Palmer is still having an impact on the team, although there have been questions raised about his impact in big games with John Obi Mikel wanting to see more from him against the top opposition.

Opposition teams are paying more attention to Palmer now and he’s often man marked or doubled up on which makes it much harder for him to influence the game.

Palmer will have the night off against Heidenheim in the Conference League on Thursday before returning to the team for Sunday’s huge game against Aston Villa.
