Rio Ferdinand questioned who the experienced players are at Chelsea after Noni Madueke stormed down the tunnel after being substituted against Arsenal.
The Blues battled back to earn a point against the Gunners which meant they moved into third place in the Premier League.
It could have been worse for Chelsea after Gabriel Martinelli gave the visitors the lead, but the Blues hit back through Pedro Neto, although they were unable to find a winner.
Ferdinand questions who the experienced players following Madueke antics
Madueke was once again named in the starting line-up by Maresca and the England international has started every Premier League game this season other than on the opening day against Manchester City.
His form has certainly dropped off in recent weeks compared to the start of the campaign, and he didn’t have the best game against Arsenal.
Madueke failed to track back in the build-up to Arsenal’s goal, which could have made a difference and he was replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk in the second half.
Instead of taking his place on the bench Madueke stormed straight down the tunnel, clearly annoyed with the decision to take him off, although Maresca played down the incident when asked about it.
Ferdinand admitted he understood Madueke’s thinking, but believes his actions were disrespectful to his team-mates.
“It’s disrespectful to your teammates as well. And I understand his thinking but at the same time, I don’t understand why you are doing that,” he told his YouTube channel.
“It’s a young team. Who are the experienced players who are going to go in there and say, “Woah, we don’t accept that here”.”
Madueke has come under criticism for his performances in recent weeks and posted a cryptic message to his Instagram page.
He’s still young and has plenty of maturing and improvement to make, but it’s clear he could perhaps do with a few games out of the firing line, and it will be interesting to see if he keeps his place after the international break.
