“Arguably his best game for the club” – Troy Deeney details why Man Utd game was Chelsea player’s best

Troy Deeney believes Moises Caicedo’s performance against Manchester United was arguably his best since joining Chelsea.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday as they missed the chance to go third in the league, but have the Ecuadorian to thank for taking a point back to London.

Chelsea found themselves a goal down with 20 minutes remaining as Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot before Caicedo equalised with a brilliant volley.

Deeney: Arguably Caicedo’s best performance in a Chelsea shirt

The Ecuador international isn’t known for his goalscoring, but the two goals he has scored for the club have been superb, including one from the half way line against Bournemouth last season.

People might have been surprised at the quality Caicedo showed in the equaliser, but Levi Colwill wasn’t and hailed the 23-year-old as an amazing player.

Caicedo initially struggled following his British record transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2023, but he’s more than found his feet, and is arguably Chelsea’s best performer this season.

It’s arguable he’s been the best midfielder in the league this campaign, but Maresca stopped short of saying that when asked.

Caicedo has found himself playing with Romeo Lavia over the past few games and it appears to be getting the best out of him, whilst offering a better balance to the team.

Deeney thought Caicedo’s performance against United was brilliant and claimed it was arguably his best for the Blues.

“His performance in Chelsea’s draw at Manchester United was arguably his best game for the club,” he told BBC Sport.

“I know people think it is about his goal and it was a wonderful strike, but he was all over the place, putting his foot in, making loads of fouls, ratty tackles.

“He got on the ball more too and was braver, playing it forward. I thought he was miles better than he has been.”

Caicedo will likely have the night off against Noah in the Conference League on Thursday before returning to the side for Sunday’s huge game against Arsenal.
