Top source shares interesting update on Chelsea’s plan for the summer transfer window

Chelsea are looking to sign an “established” centre back in the summer window according to The Athletic journalist Liam Twomey.

The January window is into the final two weeks, but as of yet Chelsea haven’t been particularly busy, although this is the time when things generally start to pick up.

The Blues have agreed a deal with Juventus to send Renato Veiga on loan for the rest of the season, although there are still a number of others they are looking to move on.

Chelsea looking to sign an established centre back in the summer

Chelsea have been forced to strengthen defensively this month given injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana, who is on track to return before the end of the season.

The Blues have recalled both Aaron Anselmino and Trevoh Chalobah from their respective loan spells, whilst they have also agreed a deal to sign Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg, with the highly rated 19-year-old centre back set to arrive in the summer.

Enzo Maresca’s side did explore a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month, and it’s believed that deal has been put on the back burner until the summer.

It feels like there’s going to be a lot of change at centre back before the start of next season, with question marks over the futures of Axel Disasi, Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile.

Chalobah is still expected to be sold in the summer, and in words cited on X.com Twomey has stated the Blues are looking to sign an “established” centre back in the summer window.

It makes sense given Thiago Silva hasn’t properly been replaced and despite Levi Colwill showing leadership qualities the Blues do a lack a real leader in the back line.

As of now it’s unclear who Chelsea will look to target, but it’s certainly an area that needs addressing ahead of next season.

  1. The boards of directors not doing good for the team. If this team wants to compete on highest level they should start strengthening the squad by getting CB and Striker this month. The squad not strong enough to win trophy . They have a problem in injuries and striker not good enough to score goals weekend week out . CB injury prone players problems , they need to strengthen the squad . Plus central midfield needs at least recall Lesley to pivot the middle with caceido to help the defence . Santos on summer for Lavia . Lavia has injury needs to resolve , Santos needs to be trust by maresca . Santos will be the future world class player for Chelsea FC . I hope the boards of the directors will listen and get additional players to strengthen this team to qualify for UCL and win trophies this season . God bless my fav club Chelsea FC .
