There was a reason we didn’t want to sign Joao Felix – and there was a reason we wanted him sold permanently, not loaned out in January.
While the attacker can produce superb moments of magic, that’s all they ever are – moments. He’s unable to produce consistently either within a game or a season. That’s how he’s ended up bouncing around from club to club, and finds himself on loan at AC Milan just 6 months after signing for us for around €45m.
He scored in his first start for them and got everyone very excited – there was immediate talk about making the move permanent. But already there’s a backlash as the Italian giants see more of him.
He was called a “ghost” by TMW after he was invisible in Milan’s loss to Bologna, and his team have won just 2 of the 7 games he’s started for them since signing. At this rate there’s no way they’ll be paying anything for him come the summer.
Inexcusable Felix signing shows just what’s wrong with Chelsea’s transfer policy
The Felix signing was inexcusable for a number of reasons, chief among them the fact that we were the team with him on loan just two years ago, and we got to see first hand that he’s just not up to it. To sign him after getting to see his lack of impact up close was just criminal.
To compound it, we sold Conor Gallagher (who would have been such a useful player this season) to balance the books for that deal.
Now it seems we’re going to pay the price – nobody will want to sign him this summer by the looks of things, so we will just continue to loan him out and watch his value diminish.
