Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior has claimed new Chelsea signing Mamadou Sarr will be a “top” player in the future.
The Blues agreed a deal worth up to €15m in January for the 19-year-old centre back, who will spend the remainder of the season in France before linking up with his new team-mates.
Sarr becomes the latest teenage centre back signed by Chelsea after Aaron Anselmino was signed last summer from Argentine side Boca Juniors.
Rosenior praises new Chelsea signing
Chelsea strengthened their defensive ranks in January by recalling Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace to provide cover due to injuries to Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana.
The deal for Sarr sees a continuation in Chelsea’s recruitment policy of signing the best young talent from around Europe and the world.
Sarr only joined Strasbourg from Lyon last summer, but he’s impressed in Ligue 1 this season making 16 appearances to date, as they sit seventh and continue to push for European football.
What Chelsea’s long term plan for Sarr might be isn’t clear given they have a number of centre backs on their books already.
However, Rosenior has been full of praise for the France Under-20 international and believes he will be a “top” player in the future.
“I could talk about him for hours,” he said as cited on X.com.
“His nickname is Mamadou Rosenior, he’s my son. It’s scary to show such performances at 19 with such calm in the face of such strong teams.
“He just has to stay humble and calm but he will be a top player for sure!”
Axel Disasi will likely leave in the summer, whilst the expectation is that Chalobah also departs, although the Blues are also keen to bring Marc Guehi back to the club from Crystal Palace.
As well as Anselmino there’s also Josh Acheampong who can play centre back, with all three a very similar age, and it would seem unlikely they all make it at Chelsea.
I hope Anselmino and Mathis Amagou be given chance to play for this team now that they’re here that’s the part of their development rather than just a part of training . They need to experience the physical side of premier League and showcase their skills and adopt quickly for development . This manager talks but he has to play this young players specially the squad are lot of injured players and some of them been loan out . Plus it good to give most player’s to rest to avoid burn out , lack of form . And to boost the confidence of those young players and showcase their skills and abilities that can prove they’re ready to play with the first team .
Having multiple options for selection of strikers is the solution to solve the problem with Chelsea FC.
We need (3) more quality strikers (which most not be expensive) plus Jackson thus drogba says “the Best way to win is to Attack Always and we’ll”. Even if 2 are injured, 1 not fit , 1 must be red hot and available to win 1 or 2 matches before the others are back to fitness.
