Fabrizio Romano is reporting that AC Milan are closing in on a deal to loan Joao Felix from Chelsea until June.
There is “direct contact” between the clubs now that Milan have submitted a bid, and it sounds like the move will happen now. This news is creating anger among the sub section of Chelsea fans who love Felix and were frustrated by his lack of use this season since signing from Atletico Madrid in the summer.
But any anger at Enzo Maresca is totally misplaced – and a sure sign of the bizarre cult around Joao Felix. The anger should be pointed towards the co-sporting directors who continue to oversee this prodigious waste of money on players which are doing nothing to improve the first team.

Felix has done nothing to deserve more first team action

Meanwhile Felix has never shown anything consistently which indicated that Maresca should be bending over backwards to get him into the team. He had some nice moments and some highlight reel flicks and tricks and finishes – but that’s all Felix ever does. We knew that from his last spell. Those in charge of buying him in the first place, having already had him at the club to scout, should be the ones people are angry at.
I hate you Maresca

£45m spent and a 7 year contract handed out to a player who the manager didn’t even want. It’s a scandal. The fact that it was all arranged partly to get rid of Conor Gallagher (who would have been a far more useful player to have around this season) and to line the pockets of Jorge Mendes makes it even more galling.
There are a long list of people to be angry at in this situation – Maresca isn’t one of them. he was just doing his best to help this team win.
