Pundit says he predicted Chelsea disaster “from the start” because of these facts

Joe Cole was asked for his take on the Chelsea “project” this week after another awful result for his old team.

He made some very salient points about the strategy being adopted by his old team of buying young talents and filling the team with them.

“I’ve said it from the start. You have to have experienced players on the pitch with these players,” Cole said.

“You can have all the coaches in the world, but the lessons are learned by your teammates teaching you, nurturing you for a situation. So these players that Chelsea expect to be there in three, four years time, they might well be but I tell you what they’ll be a lot quicker there if you put experienced players in that team and trust me you would have more points, and they will be in a better position on the pitch.”

Most predictable disaster continues to unfold at Chelsea

It’s not just Cole who was saying that – we were all saying that from the very start of this project. It’s all very well buying potential, but if the players you buy don’t have the right environment to reach that potential, you’re never going to make any money from selling them, and you’re certainly not going to win many games in the meantime.

We’ve watched it happen in front of our eyes now – the players bought in summer 2022 barely developed at all because they’ve been surrounded by chaos ever since. New managers, new teammates, younger players coming up behind them. Most of that first batch have been loaned or sold, with no real prospect of profit in most cases.

The evidence on the pitch on Friday – and in many games before that – reminds you exactly why you need experience out there.
