Chelsea’s policy in the last few years has been to hoover up all the best young talent in the world, especially from South America, and that shows no signs of slowing down.
It’s been a mixed bag so far – for every Andrey Santos there’s a Deivid Washington – but you’ve got to keep rolling the dice if you want to earn a few winners, and the latest move is for a 17 year old at Corinthians. Fabrizio Romano has today reported that we’re in the mix for Denner Evengelista, a 17 year old who will apparently cost €15m once all add ons are taken into account.
There is a sell on clause included, which reverses the usual setup here (more often it’s Chelsea selling a player for cheap, but including a sell on). As he’s doesn’t turn 18 for almost a year, he will come to the Blues next summer. For the next year he will continue playing for Corinthians, with some of the add on incentives in our transfer fee likely set up to encourage them to use him in that interim period.

Denner’s famous relative showing him the way in Premier League

Interestingly, Denner is the cousin of Arsenal stalwart Gabriel Magalhaes, whom former Chelsea man Antonio Rudiger recently called one of the 3 best central defenders in the world. If he turns out to be half as good as his relative, we’ve done well here.
Denner has been dominant in the youth categories for Corinthians and was recently called up to the Brazil Under-17 setup. We first heard rumours back in January that this deal was potentially on the cards, and clearly there was no rush to get it done. Now it looks to be just one step away from being announced, with Chelsea ready to add another talent.
