“Set to send opening bid” – Romano provides major update as Chelsea transfer saga heats up

Noni Madueke has committed to a five year contract at Arsenal, with the Gunners preparing to send their opening bid to Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea have signed Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro this summer, and haven’t ruled out bringing another attacker in.

In order for that to happen it looks like one of the current crop will have to leave with it looking likely to be Madueke.

Arsenal preparing opening Madueke bid

Arsenal have identified Madueke as a key target as they look to add depth in the wide areas, and the England international would provide much needed back up for Bukayo Saka.

Madueke is currently in America at the Club World Cup and made an impact as a second half substitute in the 2-1 win against Palmeiras.

Chelsea are thought to value Madueke at around £50m, and Maresca has made it clear he only wants players who are happy to be at Chelsea.

Madueke has agreed personal terms with the Gunners, although no club to club conversations have happened, and Romano has provided a further update on the situation.

He took to X.com and said:

“Understand Arsenal are set to send opening bid for Noni Madueke after agreement with the player on personal terms.

“Told Madueke has committed to a five year deal valid until June 2030, already approved by the player’s camp.”

The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 in a deal worth £29m and has scored 20 goals in 91 appearances for the Blues to date.

Mohammed Kudus a target

With Madueke looking likely to leave Chelsea could replace him with Mohammed Kudus who’s set to leave West Ham.

The Ghana international is also attracting interest from Tottenham, who’ve had a £50m bid rejected as the race for the 24-year-old heats up.

Chelsea were close to signing Kudus in 2023 when he was at Ajax, and he’s clearly remained on their radar since, with the Hammers thought to want around £60m.
