Chelsea have completed the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, and the winger has just given his first interview for the club website where he ran through some of his connections with the Blues.
Having played at Manchester City’s youth academy like so many of our current squad, the ties run deep.

Full circle moment for Gittens who completes the cycle

“It feels very full circle. I was at Chelsea when I was at Under-8 or Under-9 level, around that time. I wasn’t there for long, but I remember going to Chelsea and being so excited to come back from school to join Chelsea for two hours, once a week. It was a great feeling,” the winger explained.
“I remember playing at Reading and Manchester City and having to play Chelsea in the youth academies, so to go back to Cobham as a Chelsea player will be great.”
Gittens ready to reunite with host of former teammates
It wasn’t just playing at Cobham which will bring him full circle – it’s also playing with and against players he’s so familiar with from his youth career.
“I played with Cole [Palmer] at Under-16s and Under-18s, and Liam [Delap] the same. And I’ve played against Levi [Colwill] from every single time we’d play against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup, Premier League tournaments, the lot.
“I had a couple of text messages from Cole telling me to come, the same from Liam, and all of them were eager for me to join.”
Well, they got their wish. All this should help Gittens settle super quickly – something he will need, as he won’t get a traditional preseason.
