“Immediate situation” – Fabrizio Romano provides major update on Enzo Maresca and Chelsea

The situation between Chelsea and Enzo Maresca is getting tense with his future now being discussed according to Fabrizio Romano.

Maresca is believed to have an internal problem at Chelsea, and it looks like things could come to head imminently.

The Italian took charge in the summer of 2024 replacing Mauricio Pochettino, and guided Chelsea back to the Champions League last season, and won the Conference League and Club World Cup.

Situation between Enzo Maresca and Chelsea very tense

Things have clearly been bubbling away behind the scenes for sometime, and reached a head when Maresca made his feelings clear after the win against Everton in December.

He described the previous 48 hours as his worst since arriving at the club, and is believed to feel there’s been a lack of support internally.

Maresca is currently preparing for Sunday’s game at Manchester City, but he may not make it to that match, and Romano has provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, situation getting tense in the last 24h as reported… with club/manager considering future.

“It’s NOT about next game or January results — it was never the case.  It’s an immediate situation between Maresca and Chelsea now being discussed.”

Liam Rosenior liked by Chelsea

If Chelsea and Maresca do part ways it will be interesting to see what the club do at this point in the season, and whether they go down the interim route.

The Blues reportedly like Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior and the link to him is obvious given the relationship between the two clubs.

Other names who could be of interest are Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner, both who are out of contract at the end of the season.

But it looks like it’s the end of the road for the former Leicester boss and Chelsea less than two years into a five year contract.
