Liam Rosenior claims Chelsea player took “impressive” form to “another level” against Charlton

Liam Rosenior was very happy with the performance of left back Jorrel Hato against Charlton on Saturday evening.

The Blues ran out 5-1 winners at The Valley in Rosenior’s first game in charge to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Chelsea had five different goal scorers on the night, but the pick of the bunch was a brilliant strike from Hato, which opened the scoring.

Hato has now featured in the last three games after coming on against both Manchester City and Fulham, and he was handed a start against Charlton as Rosenior made a number of changes.

It’s really the first time this season we’ve seen Hato occupying such an advanced position up the pitch, and when you see performances like that it makes you wonder why he didn’t get more of a look in under Enzo Maresca.

Marc Cucurella returns from suspension for the Arsenal game on Wednesday, and it will be interesting to see what opportunities Hato gets over the second half of the season.

This was arguably his best performance since arriving from Ajax last summer, and Rosenior was really pleased with what he saw from the Dutch international.

“He’s 19. I saw him play at Fulham. I was so impressed with him then,” he told his post match press conference.

“He’s taken that form on to another level today. Not just in terms of his goal. I felt his defensive attributes were top.

“His way that he settled the game down in possession, the way he defended one-v-one and still had the energy and speed to get forward to help us into attack.”

Liam Rosenior impressed with Chelsea youngsters

Whilst Rosenior was pleased with the performance of Hato, he also pointed out Chelsea have a number of “outstanding” young players.

“I know a lot of these players. They’re outstanding young players,” he added.

“It’s been a really, really good start for him but a really good start for all of them today with me.”

  1. Good start to Liam . I hope it will continue winning and qualify for UCL and of next season winning the EPL . Hato has a pedigree that he can be a world class player. He can fill in LCB than Badiashile and cucu at the LB . Hato and Cucu combo at the back will be good , both has pace and good defender . Acheampong can play in as DCM alongside Santos /caceido and let Fernandez AMF . Palmer / Neto at wing …. Delap upfront . This month they need to get a quality experience defender (CB) and barco from Strasbourg , strengthening the team. Good luck for the rest of the season and God bless Chelsea FC .
