Reports did the rounds last night that Thibaut Courtois had a serious eye injury based on this article in the Sun.
However, as confirmed by Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, Courtois just has a burst blood vessel in his eye. It looks gruesome, but isn’t serious. In fact he played against Southampton and Everton with the issue – a fact that the Sun recognise in their own article.
Euh, Thibaut Courtois played with this horror eye injury against Southampton and Everton. Just a popped blood vessel. #cfc #checkfacts https://t.co/SmoRh9gH96

They even admit that they don’t know whether the keeper’s eye is damaged or just bloodshot.
This comes just days after journalists were criticised for talking up Robin Van Persie’s eye injury for clicks. The initial reports that he had almost lost an eye turned out to be totally unfounded, and Fenerbahce were angered.
Courtois is likely to have just been rested for the game against Holland. There is no reason to think he won’t be able to play in Chelsea’s next fixture at the Riverside next weekend.
