Why Chelsea’s star signing won’t be available for Arsenal debut

Chelsea are close to completing a deal to land Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid as the striker undergoes medicals in London on Thursday but he will only get the chance to play for his new club on Tuesday.

Antonio Conte and his squad have traveled to China to begin their preseason tour but without six senior players including Eden Hazard, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Diego Costa, Nemanja Matic, Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger.

One other man who is not with the squad yet is Morata but he will fly to the Far East after he completes his medical on Friday.

His new side will play Arsenal, their opponents in the FA Community Shield, on Saturday. This sadly means that Morata won’t have time to link up with the squad, so Blues fans will have to wait to see their new man in action.

By the time Chelsea fly out from Beijing to Singapore to play Bayern Munich on Tuesday, their new target man will be with the squad.

He will be available to play against Bayern on Tuesday, 25 July and Inter Milan on Saturday, July 29.
