Diego Costa may finally be getting what he’s wished for for the past one year, if reports were right of his long-standing intent to return to Atletico Madrid, after Chelsea bent their backs to accept a cut price of €60m.
The Spanish striker has been on exile since the start of the summer and has refused to return to Chelsea after he revealed Antonio Conte’s text saying the 28-year old would not be part of his plans in the future.
He has decided to remain in Lagarto, his hometown in Brazil, and has refused to join his teammates in London the entire summer.
Having failed to seal a move back to Spain before the close of transfer deadline day, Marca now reports he may be finally on his way to Madrid after a deal was agreed between the Blues and Atletico.
The report did not state how much will be paid upfront out of the €60m fee, but what is certain is that it contains add-ons and bonuses.
The Mirror reported on Monday that Atletico had sent a delegation to London to attempt finalizing the deal, which now looks likely to happen in January. Whatever the delegates may have said to Chelsea’s top officials, they were listened to.
The Spanish giants have a transfer embargo on them which prevents them from making transfers until the new year. This means the deal will only be confirmed in January when Diego Simeone’s side can field players they bring in.
Alvaro Morata was brought in to replace Costa, and he has gone on to score three goals in four games in the Premier League this season.
