Breaking: Marcos Alonso three-match ban confirmed by FA

Chelsea will be without Marcos Alonso for the next three games in FA competitions atfter an Independent Regulatory Commission ruled that he had committed an act of violence when Chelsea played Southampton last weekend.

The ruling means Alonso will now miss Chelsea games against Burnley tonight in the Premier League, as well as match day 36 clash with Swansea and the Blues FA Cup semi final game with Southampton next weekend.

The sanction is off the back of video capturing Alonso stamping on Shane Long in the first half of last season’s champions clash with the Saints last weekend, when they achieved the stunning 3-2 comeback.

In his absence, Antonio Conte can rely on winter transfer window signing Emerson Palmieri, who joined from AS Roma. He is the only other recognized natural left back in the squad and will step in as cover until Alonso returns.

The clash against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge will be the first game Alonso will feature in, following his ban.
