For all the talk of Victor Osimhen, Jhon Duran and Benjamin Sesko, it feels like the most obvious Chelsea striker target is staring us right in the face.
Dominic Solanke is home grown at Chelsea, and has performed in the Premier League consistently over the last couple of years with Bournemouth. The 26 year old had his best season yet last time out, leading the line for Andoni Iraola’s impressive outfit and netting 19 goals in the Premier League alone.
CaughtOffside have some interesting quotes from the Cherries boss where he explains that there’s only so much he can do to try and keep his star man if big teams come knocking:
“Dom is happy. He has come back in very good shape, is training very well and the relationship he has with his team-mates is very good. But the market is open. You cannot say he is going to stay or that he is going to leave because we don’t know. In the end, it is something you cannot control.”
Not only can Iraola not stand in the way of a big offer, there’s also reportedly a release clause which would mean even his club can’t do much if someone ponies up what’s required.
A game changing transfer for Chelsea – but maybe too late
The £65m release clause can only be activated by certain clubs – but Chelsea are believed to be one of them. It’s a lot of money, but then again it’s not that much if he proves to be a consistent goalscorer for us. We’ve lacked that so much in recent years, and there’s no telling how different things might have been in the last decade had we found a Solanke type forward who could do the dirty work as well scoring regularly.
