Darren Bent names Chelsea player who is getting “better and better” and admits he’s a big fan

Darren Bent believes Nicolas Jackson is getting better and better and feels his composure in front of goal has improved this season.

The Blues have a made a good start to the campaign and currently sit third in the league following their 2-1 win against Leicester on Saturday.

Despite not signing a striker in the summer Chelsea haven’t struggled for goals and have 23 goals from their 12 games this season, with only two teams scoring more.

A lot was made of Chelsea not bringing in a striker having pursued Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, whilst they agreed a deal for Samu Omorodion only for it to collapse at the last minute.

Jackson’s start to the season has shown it maybe wasn’t so bad to miss out on a striker and the 23-year-old has seven goals and three assists from 12 games.

The Senegal international has improved significantly under Enzo Maresca, especially his finishing and he’s started every league game this campaign.

Chelsea are big believes in Jackson and a report from The Athletic claimed the Blues view him as one of the top three strikers in the league.

Jamie O’Hara believes Jackson is turning into a really good striker and Bent a former striker himself was full of praise for the Senegalese.

“I think he’s getting better and better,” he said on Ben Foster’s YouTube channel.

“He scored a lot of goals last season, this year, he looks like he’s got a bit more composure in front of goal. I think if you look at last season he’d go through quite a lot, but couldn’t really finish.

“The two goals at West Ham were really nice finishes. The goal at the weekend against Leicester, fantastic little touch and outside the boot. Beautiful finish.

“I just think he gives you so much. What you don’t see maybe on camera is how many runs he makes. He’s always on the shoulder.

“They look at him and they don’t really play it. He does get the pass every now and then. For every pass he gets, he probably makes about eight runs. It’s scary how many times he’s on the shoulder. I’m a big fan of his.”
