Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has revealed which part of Cole Palmer’s game impresses him the most as the pair appeared in a feature for Football Focus over the weekend.
Palmer has been nothing short of sensational for the Blues since arriving from Manchester City in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £42.5m.
The 22-year-old has established himself as Chelsea’s go to man and is now regarded as one of the best players not just in the Premier League but also in the world.
Zola reveals what impresses him about Palmer
What Palmer achieved last season was incredible as he scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists, which saw him named as Premier League Young Player of the Year.
The big question surrounding the England international heading into this season would be whether he could do it again, and he’s not made a bad start.
Palmer has seven goals and five assists from 12 Premier League games but hasn’t registered a goal contribution in his last three matches, although Noni Madueke did block his goal bound effort on the line against Leicester.
He’s rightly been receiving plaudits for his performances with Zola himself claiming he’s a future Ballon d’Or winner. The Italian has also revealed which part of Palmer’s game impressed him the most in a recent feature the pair appeared in together and highlighted his goal earlier this season against Wolves.
“The ball comes to you, you watch the goalkeeper and then you kick. Did you do anything to train that ability? Or does it come naturally?,” Zola asked.
Palmer responded with a gesture to suggest he doesn’t really work on it to which Zola replied:
“Wow, I’m impressed. This guy did it without even training. I needed to train very hard to do that. It’s a big compliment.”
A lot of Palmer’s game seems to come naturally to him but of course he works very hard on the training pitch to improve his game and Chelsea will be hoping he returns to his best form for Sunday’s huge game against Aston Villa.
