“The type of player you want to play with” – Scholes names Chelsea ace he would’ve loved to played with

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has described Moises Caicedo as the type of player he would liked to have played with.

Caicedo stood out as Chelsea and United played out a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, meaning the Blues missed the chance to go third.

It could have been worse for Chelsea as they found themselves behind with 20 minutes to go thanks to a penalty from Bruno Fernandes, but Caicedo equalised with a brilliant volley and they could have won it late on with Enzo Fernandez wasting a good chance.

Caicedo was named as Chelsea’s man of the match, and he appears to be a player reborn under the guidance of Enzo Maresca this season.

The Ecuador international looks like he’s back to the form he showed at Brighton and is arguably the best midfielder in the league, although Maresca stopped short of saying it himself.

Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are now Chelsea’s first choice midfield partnership, whilst Jamie Redknapp believes the Ecuadorian plays better alongside the 20-year-old than Fernandez.

Speaking after the game Scholes described Caicedo as the type of player he would’ve liked to play with during his career.

“Moises Caicedo is the type of player you want to play with, you need that type of player,” he told the Premier League’s official website as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.

“He was probably the best out of the four [on the pitch].”

Caicedo and Lavia appear to give Chelsea a better balance in the middle of the park and the Blues look more solid defensively when the two play together.

The 22-year-old will more than likely be given the night off on Thursday as Chelsea host Noah in the Conference League, before a huge London derby against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
