£58m Chelsea ace names team-mate he’s had “very good connection from day one” with

Romeo Lavia has hailed Moises Caicedo as an amazing player and hopes the pair can continue to show their quality on the pitch together.

Lavia arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth an initial £53m from Southampton, which could rise to £58m.

The Belgian international only played 32 minutes of football last season as he was plagued by injury issues, and he almost feels like a new signing given his lack of availability.

Lavia hopes to continue playing with Caicedo

The 20-year-old impressed in pre-season as he built his fitness up and started Chelsea’s first game of the season against Manchester City, where he put in a good performance.

After coming on as a late substitute against Servette he picked up a hamstring injury and subsequently missed four consecutive Premier League games.

Maresca made the big decision to put him into the starting line-up against Liverpool in place of Enzo Fernandez and the midfielder has now started every league game since then.

Lavia has looked impressive alongside Caicedo, who has arguably been best midfielder in the league, although Maresca stopped short of saying that himself when asked.

Jason Cundy believes Caciedo and Lavia is Chelsea’s strongest midfield and the duo certainly seem to provide the team with a better balance and offer more defensive stability.

Lavia has recently spoken about playing with the Ecuador International, and described him as an amazing player and claims they have a very good connection.

“He’s (Caicedo) an amazing player,” he told Stadium Astro YouTube channel.

“We’ve had a very good connection from day one. Now to be able to show that on the pitch is good. Hopefully we can carry on that way.”

Lavia and Caicedo have the potential and quality to be the best midfield pivot in the league and given how young they are there’s still so much room for improvement.

The pair will likely start together again against Arsenal on Sunday as the Blues look to record a statement win against the Gunners before the international break.
