No Chelsea players have any clauses in their contracts that allows them to leave if the Blues don’t qualify for the Champions according to Ben Jacobs.
The Blues haven’t qualified for Europe’s premier club competition for the past two seasons and are embroiled in a fiercely contested race to qualify this season.
Chelsea have spent virtually the whole season in the top four, but dropped to sixth over the weekend after losing to Brighton, with both Manchester City and Bournemouth leapfrogging them.
No hidden clauses in Chelsea contracts
Enzo Maresca’s side are currently on a run of two wins in their last nine league matches, and John Obi Mikel claimed it would be a disaster if they failed to qualify for the Champions League again.
Missing out would not only be damaging financially, but players could start to consider their futures if the Blues continue their Champions League absence.
These players signed to play in the competition, and Troy Deeney believes Chelsea could struggle to keep the likes of Cole Palmer happy if they don’t qualify again.
Almost all the players in the squad are on long term contracts, which you would expect to have various exit clauses in them, but Jacobs has provided an update on the situation.
He took to X.com and said:
“Understand no Chelsea player has any clause in their contract allowing an exit if the club fail to qualify for #UCL.
“This includes Cole Palmer. Chelsea’s incentive-driven contracts, which have already seen Palmer rewarded with an incremental wage increase and Enzo Fernandez extended, do not offer this type of release clause, formal or informal.”
That’s certainly good news for supporters, but on the other hand if players want to leave, a lack of exit clauses is unlikely to stop them forcing their way out of the club, it just means the Blues will be able to command higher fees.
However, all this talk can stop if Chelsea pick up their form over the final part of the season and secure Champions League qualification.
This problem is manager responsibilities …… Chelsea FC losing because of the manager . He has no defence and keeps relying on the wingers . His selections making not good . He is a average manager . He only good in championship club and I hope he won’t drags this team to championship league . Chelsea FC should hire world class manager with elite mindset excellence tactics and systems . That was before during Roman era . Now the new owners are no knowledge about the importance of the history of this club and no knowledge of how to manage this club about playing football in EPL and needs of UCL .
