Maybe it’s because he’s quite the silky player, or maybe it’s just because he never got a fair shake of it because of a poorly timed injury, but either way Chelsea fans all really seem to like Carney Chukwuemeka, the midfielder who joined Borussia Dortmund on loan in January.
The midfielder is gradually working his way into their team, and he made a big impact in a 20 minute cameo against Union Berlin yesterday, setting up one goal with a run through the middle and showing off his lovely touch and intelligence stringing moves together in an open game.
It was 2-0 to Dortmund when he came on in the 70th minute, and 6-0 when the game ended. A lovely reverse pass set up Karim Adeyemi who hit the post, and not long after a brilliant swivel on the spot sent a Berlin marker the wrong way and allowed Chukwuemeka space to thread a “pre-assist” through.

Chelsea fans still support Chukwuemeka despite club discarding him
The majority of us have sadly given up on Chukwuemeka ever making it to the first team at Chelsea – he’s clearly just not fancied by these sporting directors, who are keen to just juice up his value before selling him.
But we can still support him as a player and hope his good spell with Dortmund can develop. We’d love them to buy him in the summer so that he can thrive there long term. The Bundesliga really suits him with its big open spaces for him to attack, and we can see him becoming the star we always hoped he would be if he can stay injury free.
