Chelsea are taking on Manchester City today, and it’s a particularly hard team to predict because we have no idea who is picking the team or what they think.
Chelsea’s team hard to predict with new man in the hot seat

Calum McFarlane is nominally in charge, but honestly who knows how much influence the Under-21 manager has today. Presumably the idea will be to keep things as steady as possible. That will mean Robert Sanchez in goal. Reece James played just 45 minutes in midweek so should be ok to start today.
In the middle of defence, we’d hope that Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah are fit to continue, but there’s a chance that the Frenchman isn’t risked after playing on Tuesday. Marc Cucurella looks like he will miss another game with a hamstring problem, so we expect Malo Gusto on the left.
Moises Caicedo is suspended, so it’s likely to be Andrey Santos teaming up with Enzo Fernandez in the middle of the park, with
Cole Palmer should be ready to play an hour or so ahead of them, with Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho out wide. Joao Pedro didn’t start on Tuesday, so he could come in with Liam Delap benched.
An alternative setup to strengthen midfield would see James in the middle of the pitch with Andrey Santos left out and Josh Acheampong playing at right back. Estevao did great on Tuesday, and could also start.
In other news…
Pedro Neto insists that we’ve got a chance in today’s game, despite the chaos at the club and the standard of our opposition. We wish we were as hopeful.
Paul Merson was on Sky this morning, and he was very clear about why top coaches in the Premier League aren’t desperate to land the Chelsea job.
