Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior is seen as the “ideal” coach for the Chelsea project according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Rosenior is reportedly the lead candidate to replace Enzo Maresca, after the Italian parted ways with club on Thursday after 18 months in charge.
Under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will lead Chelsea for their game away at Manchester City on Sunday, and possibly against Fulham on Wednesday if a deal isn’t done in time.
Chelsea see Liam Rosenior as ideal coach
Chelsea are continuing with their negotiations to appoint Rosenior, but it’s been reported it won’t be finalised until BlueCo have found Strasbourg a replacement.
Rosenior, like Maresca is relatively inexperienced, especially at the highest level, and would once again represent another gamble from the Chelsea hierarchy.
Fans would love to see a top level manager appointed, but Chelsea don’t do that under the new ownership, and like with their transfer policy they also go for young coaches with potential.

Rosenior is believed to have impressed Chelsea, and is said to be a good man manager , whilst he’s shown he’s good at working with young players.
Quite how he’ll handle the step up remains to be seen, but Romano has explained why Chelsea view him as the “ideal” coach.
“Chelsea are quite convinced about Liam Rosenior, doing a really important job at Strasbourg, trusting young players and considered the ideal coach for the Chelsea project,” he said on Instagram.
“Liam Rosenior remains the leading candidate for Chelsea. Talks are underway between all parties. They are on it and are respecting the process, as it’s all the same ownership group.
“They need a replacement if Chelsea proceeds; they are checking.”
Chelsea face tough Manchester City test on Sunday
Whilst Chelsea look to appoint a new manager, they have the small task of a trip to Manchester City on Sunday.
The Blues are currently on a run of one win in seven in the league, and don’t want to be losing further ground in the race for Champions League football.
Chelsea’s task is made tougher by the fact they will be without the suspended Moises Caicedo, whilst a final decision has yet to be taken on Marc Cucurella’s participation.
