The Athletic reveal what Enzo Maresca did straight after Chelsea’s draw with Bournemouth

Enzo Maresca got changed and left without saying anything to his players after the game with Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by the Cherries at Stamford Bridge in what turned out to be Maresca’s last game in charge.

The Italian chose not to attend his post match media duties, with Willy Caballero claiming Maresca was ill, but in fact he was considering his position.

Enzo Maresca didn’t speak to Chelsea players after Bournemouth draw

Maresca and Chelsea parted ways on Thursday after 18 months together, in which he won the Conference League and Club World Cup, and guided the Blues back into the Champions League.

The beginning of the end for Maresca were his comments after the win against Everton in December in which he stated the previous 48 hours were his worst at the club.

It’s now been reported Maresca was referring to a falling out with the medical staff over the amount of minutes Reece James should play.

With the former Leicester man now gone, a lot of inside information is coming out his departure, and The Athletic have reported what Maresca did after the Bournemouth game.

They report the 45-year-old got changed and left without saying a word to his players, whilst there was also no emotional goodbye.

Liam Rosenior main candidate for Chelsea job

With Maresca now gone attention turns to appointing a successor, with Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior reportedly the lead contender.

Rosenior is currently preparing for this weekend’s game against Nice, and it’s been reported negotiations are accelerating between the two clubs.

The 41-year-old has done a good job at Strasbourg and is believed to be admired internally at Chelsea, but whether he’s ready for the step up to the Premier League and all the added pressure of managing a big club remains to be seen.
