“I actually worked with him once” – Gary Lineker delivers honest verdict on Liam Rosenior

Gary Lineker has described Liam Rosenior as “very impressive tactically” with the 41-year-old the favourite to become Chelsea’s next head coach.

Enzo Maresca left the club on Thursday after 18 months in charge, in which time he got the Blues back into the Champions League and won the Club World Cup and Conference League.

Under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will lead Chelsea in their game away at Manchester City on Sunday, and the new head coach could be in place for Wednesday’s game against Fulham.

Rosenior, who currently manages at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg is reportedly the leading candidate for the job.

He has experience of working under BlueCo so what he potentially walks into at Chelsea in terms of how the club operate shouldn’t be a surprise to him.

Rosenior addressed speculation over the Chelsea job in his press-conference on Friday, and his Strasbourg side take on Nice on Saturday afternoon.

Fabrizio Romano has reported the deal isn’t yet done for Rosenior because BlueCo are looking for a new coach for Strasbourg.

Rosenior is believed to be a coach with a lot of potential, and someone who’s a great man manager and good at working with young players.

However, the step up to Chelsea will be huge, and Lineker who’s worked with Rosenior in the past has shared his thoughts on him.

“A lot of talk that Liam Rosenior will be brought in,” he told The Rest Is Football

“I think he’s heavy favourite with the bookmakers. I don’t know if there’s any truth to that.”

Linker impressed by Strasbourg boss

Rosenior has done a good job at Strasbourg, and Lineker has described as impressive from a tactical point of view.

“He coaches at their sister club, doesn’t he? Strasbourg, who are currently about seventh in Ligue 1,” he added.

“He was at Hull before that. Was Wayne Rooney’s assistant at Derby for a little while.

“I actually worked with him once, he was in the studio a few years ago. Really nice, really very impressive tactically.”
