The Blues opted against bringing in a new keeper despite having the option to sign Mike Maignan, as they weren’t prepared to meet AC Milan’s valuation.
Chelsea also decided not to replace Levi Colwill, who suffered an ACL injury before the start of the season, a decision they’ve certainly paid the price for over the course of the campaign.
Alan Shearer slams Chelsea transfer decision
The Blues have spent well over £1bn since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover in 2022, but still don’t have a complete squad.
They spent almost £300m last summer on the likes of Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro.
However, they’ve still failed to address the goalkeeper and centre back issue, with Rosenior chopping and changing between Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen, whilst he can’t settle on a first choice centre back partnership.
Shearer has previously claimed Chelsea are implementing a model which won’t succeed, and now he’s slammed their decisions in the transfer market.
“Chelsea are still searching for a top-class goalkeeper and a top-class centre-half,” he told Premier League Productions.
“It’s baffling, really, when you spend that amount of money, that you still haven’t got that.
“And they’re being punished for it, the keeper makes a mistake or two, the centre-halves are too easy to play through.
“Newcastle scored a similar goal to the one Everton scored last weekend when they went straight through the middle of Chelsea.
“Chelsea are not going to achieve what they want while they’re still searching for that.”

Malo Gusto has leapt to the defence of Liam Rosenior, who’s come under increased pressure following a run of four defeats in a row.
Chelsea still appear to be backing Rosenior, but Gusto has stated he can’t understand why the 41-year-old has received so much criticism.
Some of it might be over the top but it will only get louder if Chelsea don’t improve their results after the international break.

They won’t improve if the players don’t want to win the game because of not respecting the gapper . They’re the one who’s playing in the field . Unfortunately to Liam R . He has no solid CBs to defend well organised the back . I won’t trust Fofana and some others player’s they’re rebelling . I rather play Caceido Acheampong as 3 man midfield alongside Lavia . If Palmer heart still committed to CFc I play him in LW and estavio to RW . I play Delap upfront for his physical game . Sarr and Hato should given a green light to partners at the back part of their development and adaptive to the fast physical game in English PL . … Tough time to rosenior he has to have a tactics to apply for A to Z . He needs to be strong to deal egoistic player’s . Their is a bad eggs in side the room , disruption to unsettled the team . That’s the problem in every team , player’s revolution . No matter who you hire as a head coach elite once player’s revolting against the gapper that’s the reason of dip form . Plus if the owners and boards of directors support the needs of the head coach should be given to strengthen the team and win the league . But the current owners and boards of directors are not delivering the team to the winning ways . Good luck for the remaining game’s to the season . God bless CFc .
