Chelsea were dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night as PSG strolled to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
The holders advanced 8-2 on aggregate, with Stamford Bridge emptying in it’s thousands with around half an hour still left, on what felt like a new low under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.
Danny Murphy highlights two problems Chelsea must fix
The Blues are embroiled in a race for the top five, and there’s a strong chance they won’t even be playing Champions League football next season.
Liam Rosenior made a good start, but the wheels have started to fall off after two defeats to PSG and the loss to Newcastle.
Chelsea have been plagued by defensive issues most of the season, but it appears to be worse under Rosenior, with the Blues keeping just three clean sheets in 18 games.
The PSG defeat was a harrowing night for all involved, and Murphy has identified two problems Chelsea have to address.
“There wasn’t that much between the two teams [Chelsea and PSG],” he told talkSPORT.
“The obvious lack of experience at centre-half and the problems they have with the goalkeepers are evident, this has been coming.
“They’re not great defensively. They have moments where they concede chance after chance.
“It is something that has not been addressed for a while, since Thiago Silva left.”
Liam Rosenior under pressure?
Rosenior has come under criticism following three defeats in a row, and it feels like the 41-year-old is now under growing pressure.
The Blues currently sit sixth in the league, and face a tough trip to Everton on Saturday, and confidence in the squad looks really low.
Chelsea are believed to have told Rosenior Champions League qualification is critical, and the Blues still have to play Liverpool, and both Manchester clubs in the final eight games.
Finishing in the top five could have a huge bearing on whether he’ll be in the dugout next season, and Chelsea really need to find something over the last eight games they’ve not shown recently.
