NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe has questioned what the environment is like at Chelsea and who the ownership’s ideal coach actually is.
Chelsea are once again looking for a new manager following the parting of ways with Enzo Maresca on Thursday.
Maresca spent 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge in which time he returned the club back to the Champions League, and won both the Club World Cup and Conference League.
Robbie Mustoe questions Chelsea ownership
Under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will lead the team at the Etihad against Manchester City on Sunday, whilst Chelsea continue to work on appointing a new head coach.
Liam Rosenior is reportedly the lead candidate, but any deal has been held up as Strasbourg need to find a replacement for the 41-year-old.
It’s believed Chelsea view Rosenior as their “ideal” coach, but given his lack of experience, especially at the top level, it represents another huge gamble.
Following Maresca’s departure questions have once again been asked about the club’s ownership and what the project actually is.
NBC pundit Mustoe has questioned what the environment must be like a for a manager at Chelsea, and what the ownership are actually looking for.
“All I would say is what’s the environment like at Chelsea Football Club as a manager, what’s it like? Who do they want, who is their perfect guy?” he told NBC Sport.
Pressure on to qualify for the Champions League
The Blues currently sit fifth in the Premier League and face a battle to once again qualify for the Champions League.
Champions League qualification and deep cup runs were reportedly the objectives this season, and the next head coach will be under pressure to perform immediately.
Chelsea can’t afford to miss out on Champions League football, and it will be interesting to see if the new head coach can hit the ground running and get a response out of the players.
